Fuck you, Stephen Harper

Posted on February 14th, 2012 60 great comments. Room for one more!

That’s it…I’ve had it. I’m calling a spade a spade and the federal Conservatives exactly what they are: criminal scumbags hell bent on destroying any vestige of what it means to be Canadian. For that we all owe Prime Minister Harper and his band of merry assholes a big old FUCK YOU!!

In case you haven’t been following our majority government’s shameful and downright criminal actions, or worse, if you voted for them, please pull your head out of your ass and educate yourself on why they are, and I’m not exagrating, trying to make Canada into something like a Stasi state or like something under Stalin. That goes double for Harper’s little pruned buddy Vic Toews and other Public Safety Ministers who have had an unwavering and constant record of dictatorial, freedom-quashing pronouncements under their belts. Here’s just a smattering:

Lawful Access – The charge for this bill, lead by non other than Toews, seeks to give police access to all your online records without warrant or justification. In other words, and quite literally, if there’s a cop who wants to snoop into what you’re doing, they can do it with absolutely no reason (not even a suspicion of a crime), directly in contravention of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Along with being given unrestricted access to your online activities, Lawful Access also allows police to install snooping devices on Internet Service Provider’s hardware so they can listen in on all your online conversations, completely against the highest law of the land, and against your very fundamental Canadian Rights. The Conservatives have shot down any debate on the subject, refused repeatedly to try to explain their asinine “but it’s for child porn” explanations in person which have been proven to not only be an outright lie, but have literally not a single police case to back up the claims. To add insult to injury, fuckwad Toews used a recent child porn ring bust involving hundreds of arrests as an example of how police aren’t able to do their jobs properly, and if you argue with that, you must be a pedophile too. Shit you not.

Torture – Canada used to be a place where you could come and be free of arbitrary government arrest, torture, and intimidation. Harper’s “Canadian values”, apparently, are contrary to this. Vic Toews recently popped his ugly head up and announced that the government is reversing its position on torture, ignoring even just the simple fact that it’s proven to not be effective in exacting accurate information, saying that not only is torture a-okay, we can even do it in Canada (but only against terrorists like environmental groups, so it’s okay). Of course, this once again goes against the Charter of Rights and Freedom, demonstrating that the Tories’ real targets aren’t pedophiles, terrorists, or online scammers — it’s you and your rights.

Mandatory sentences – The Conservative so-called Tackling Violent Crime which created mandatory sentences for a variety of crimes was, in a recent show of sanity, slapped down by a Toronto judge as “abhorrent” and completely unconstitutional in a case involving some guy goofing off in front of a webcam with a gun. He would’ve gotten three years in jail for that under Harper’s rule if the judge didn’t abide by the Constitution and Charter of Rights like she’s supposed to. Yet repeatedly and brazenly going against the highest law of Canada, apparently, doesn’t make the conservative government criminals for some reason. Only you and I are subject, it seems.

Unreported crime / super prisons – This was a project started in the days of Peter van Loan and Stockwell Day, Toews’ predecessors, showing how this is a long term plan by the Conservative government to destroy Canadians’ freedoms, once again without so much as a thread of real-world evidence to back up their claims. This particular gem centered around the government’s incessant push to build massive new prisons in order to prepare for all the “unreported” crime that’s happening out there. Mainstream presstitutes have tried to placate the public by pointing to the General Social Survey as being the likely source of this asinine argument, but failed entirely to ask why people didn’t report crimes; like, maybe, they didn’t think they were important enough. The Feds disagree and want you in prison, even if the “victim” doesn’t. It’s interesting to point out that the General Social Survey also includes many quality of life questions (how your life could be better), most of which go completely ignored by the federal government. No, they’re not in the business of making life better for citizens, they’re in the business of propping up mega-corporations against all opposition, all the while ensuring common, mostly law-abiding and generally innocuous citizens like you and me are made into abject criminals under their draconian laws. Let’s not forget the bullshit of the G20 (protesting in a designated protest zone? How dare they?!), which was operated under Harper’s auspices, which to this day is actively preventing and perverting the course of justice (but at least no one really innocent was affected, so it’s okay).

Human rights — Under the Conservative government, the concept of Human Rights is more or less a joke (see above), and the office of the federal Human Rights Tribunal which is bleeding staff like a stuck pig because of harassment and derision, the very ideals they’re supposed to be defending, is the very personification of the Conservative’s attitudes on the subject. And that is, fuck you, you have no rights, now cough up all your cash so we can toss your ass in jail for whatever damn reason we like.

ACTA — While the internet and public at large have expressed their seething disgust with acts like the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA), Protect IP Act (PIPA), or Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), even managing to get the US federal government to back down, our own government signed up to ACTA months ago with glee and without discussion. In the United States, ACTA (created by the private, for-profit movie and record industries), was snuck in under the noses of the American people by making it top secret so that they wouldn’t be allowed to know what laws are being imposed on them. Sure sounds like it’s in the best interest of citizens, doesn’t it?

Anti-democracy — This is something that Toronto’s Rob Ford is learning all too well: you’re not the fucking king and you don’t get to just make pronouncements and have them carried out. Someone needs to step up and slap Harper upside the head and say the same thing. In fact, someone should place him under citizens arrest and have some charges placed against him (conspiring to deprive anyone of their constitutional rights is a direct crime!) Yet the federal government continues on their merry way, telling everyone there will be no discussion on anything, and fuck you, Stephen Harper has proclaimed it so. Say what you will about democracies, but there is absolutely no doubt that the Harper government is standing directly in opposition to their very concept.

And that, without doubt, makes Conservatives and their ilk supporters, directly and publicly, of dictatorship, tyranny, and oppression. This is the very same historical narrative that Hitler used to put Germany under his thumb, and the echoes of Mao and Stalin aren’t far behind. It’s not about left or right politics, it’s about simple Canadian freedoms which we all though we had inalienably enshrined in our Constitution and Charter of Rights, and which Harper is directly attacking over and over again, and with no basis in evidence, fact, law, or even common sense.

Note that on top of being just a few example of the outrageous, egregious, illegal, dictatorial, oppressive, and audacious bullshit that the Conservatives are pushing out these days, millions have been wasted to write these things up, pass them through the proper channels, and have them enacted. Not only are your rights being stripped away wholesale, you’re paying for it!

If you’re a staunch Conservative and still manage to support your scumbag government after reading some of these tidbits, I invite you to pick up a history book on something like the Nazis to see how people who support regimes like the Harper government end up. You can’t even say “but I was just following orders” at the end of it because you’re zealously behind it, and in that case, you’re no friend of mine.

Even if you’re ambivalent about all of this (meaning you don’t think it’ll affect you), ask yourself exactly how the Conservative government has made your life better. Are your taxes lower? Are you finding it easier to find a job? Is it easier to start or run a new business? Is your old age security safe? All of the programs and rhetoric being pushed by the feds are only helping to destroy all of these assistance programs.  I mean, it’s all happening so saying that the Conservatives are not directly responsible for this (with a majority and many years in power), is a very nasty type of self-delusion. No, they’re not helping you, they’re not even leaving you alone, they are directly and purposefully making your life more difficult and miserable even if you completely ignore everything else. Or maybe you’re of the belief that your children’s lives should be worse than yours?

And if any of this disturbs you, please spread the word and let’s start to put the screws on this government. They keep passing increasingly illegal laws but because they have a majority, they don’t give a shit. But as we all know, ignorance of the law is no excuse, and being out and out criminal assholes even less.

I found this article by Googleing ‘Fuck Off Stephen Harper”! After the events of the past few days, culminating with today’s news regarding ‘dirty tricks’ on election day – I have had enough.

I haven’t read the entire article, although I will, and will also probably agree with ‘everything’ you have written.

I’m not sure how Harper got his majority, given that fewer then 6mil Canadians actually voted for him – at least I hope they were Canadian. But given what has now been revealed, I have doubts about that as well.

There is a huge problem in this Country. A Country I was born and raised in for all but 3 years of my life. We, Canadians, have been hijacked by a bitter, spiteful, vengeful asshole. He is a constant embarrassment on the world stage – I am sure there are people in the world wondering how this ‘clown’ managed to get elected. And, who the hell voted for him.

    We have become a joke!

When even the right – wing speak out against the Government they once tripped over themselves to praise, you know you are in for a rough ride. I almost fainted when I heard Brian Lilley suggest that Bill C-30 goes way to far. Wow, really! You think?!? I hope he is equally as critical with his reporting on the election debacle. The robocalls, whose sole purpose was to disrupt the election process by informing the electorate that their polling stations had been moved, when they hadn’t. Who does that shit? Oh yeah, we’re talking about Stephen Harper.

Thanks for letting me vent. February 14th was probably ‘not’ the best day to post an article you were hoping people would notice.

    Peace!

P.S If you check back to read the comments, google ‘Study links low intelligence with right-wing beliefs’. This will take you to a Globe & Mail article that explains what is wrong with our current Government.

Thanks, Beatrice, and yes, recent events make me want to give Harper an even bigger middle finger. Not only is he angling to be a despot, it’s looking more and more like he’s done so illegitimately. I didn’t plan the date for this post but people typically find my stuff after the fact so I’m not too worried about it (you found it, after all).

P.S. I read that right-wing intelligence article too. I’ve personally found that people who ardently support Harper and his cronies wallow in the most abject willful ignorance, though once reality breaks through, intelligent analysis sometimes seems to come back.

Thank you for this piece. Thank you. Today, we hear about the final passing into law of the long-gun part of the registry; and this announced with government “officials” dancing up and down for joy; dancing on her daughter’s grave is what one mother of a victim of the Polytechnique massacres stated. And she’s right! That’s exactly what was happening. They are toasting the degradation of the CBC. They are finding more and more ways, like Putin in Russia, to discredit any semblance of democracy: to deny their robocall scam, and many more scams! Ridings weren’t only taken through robocalls. In my mother’s riding in Toronto, there were other methods used. Yet, in Toronto, I hear only Rob Ford criticism. In Montreal, people are in the streets, to support education. I think it’s time we link up ALL our protests in the street with calls for recall votes, calls for ending the regime which is fast becoming a tyrannical one. I think it’s time we take the big bus and go to Ottawa. There is still, I hear, a great deal of support for this government in the West; and I just wonder why a dialogue isn’t going on. What is going on? By West, are we speaking of Alberta? If so, something is deathly wrong; and I mean, deathly. The Alberta tar sands, destruction of the Boreal forest the size of Florida, threatens the water system of the entire province, of the entire country! And, there, right alongside the sands, rare bile duct cancers at a huge rate in the population of Indigenous peoples -> Dene, mostly. Every form of life alongside the sands is snuffed out. Now pipes are to be lain out, cutting through fragile ecosystems????? And the cut to the CBC, never mind the cuts to small community and youth organizations, to fund the sands (Dutch disease). Our money is going into these sands, by the way, into subsidies for the oil sands. Harper is the same person he is in person, with his family, as he is with the public. Along with his thugs there, he’s saying, “Fuck you, Canada.” Why don’t we say the same back?

I can sadly say I voted for the conservatives to help give them their abusive majority government. I voted on the basis of the economy and government transparency but haha lets just say those didn’t happen. I am a 23 year old political science student who lives in the west and I can safely say nobody I talk to is happy with harper. So I want to say thanks to old stephen for making it easy to never cast a vote for you again and I will personally do my best to educate the base on your wonderful democratic and fiscally sound policies. I never thought I could be so frustrated that I would take time out of my day to google fuck stephen harper… funny how things work.

I thank you for this blog. I have been writing anti Harper government story-lettes on Facebook about the loss of democracy in Canada. The muzzling of the press, scientists. The proposed changes to environmental laws being secretly ramrodded through parliament inside budget legislation has made this country and government a joke. This government invokes Nazi restriction on freedoms under the guise of Public security, all within a system that engenders democratically elected totalitarianism by towing the party line while in power. Disgusting to this Canadian by any stretch of the imagination.

Many people at my company do not like me using expressions like Nazi-Canada, or Hitler-Harper, but with our ever-so-diminishing freedoms, I feel it necessary to applaud fellow like thinkers who are ready to make a difference in this country, and take back what we’ve lost.

Thievin’ Steven Harphole is the worst thing ever to happen to Canada. It will take years if not decades to undo the damage this man has done and is doing to Canada. The only hope we have is to whittle away his majority through by-elections until we get the real chance next national election. And that cannot come soon enough.

Great and informative article….I love how Canadians are starting to stand up and speak out against Tarper and gang…if we don’t do it now, at the rate they’re pushing things, soon we won’t be able to….I’ve never been scared of my government before, but Tarper truly frightens me, I’m worried for our children and what they could be facing….we could be such a great country, we have everything we need to make it so including wonderful people…now he’s giving Canada to China and we’re not even allowed to discus it???…..how do you get a bully out of your house once you invite him in…shaking my head:(

Here’s a letter I wrote before the last Quebec election.

Mr Charest, I am from Ontario as were my parents and ancestors. I moved to Québec in 1997 a staunch federalist. After 15 years here, I have come I understand what Quebec is all about. And quite frankly, this time I will vote for its independence. Canada is no longer the country I defended in 1995 during the referendum. The British parliamentary heritage has done more to destroy democracy and promote corruption than the sovereignist agenda could ever have done. We have just lived through more chaos and state manipulation than a former eastern bloc country. I am sick of my adoptive province having to function as a spoiled brat to get the proper recognition it deserves from the federal government. Harper has no plan for Québec and has destroyed the country I once loved. No, mr Charest, this time you will not have my vote. I have decided to jump on board willingly and courageously. Quebec wants to become the Canada I used to live in. It is time to walk the walk. Mr Charest, you represent everything I left Ontario for, during Mike Harris’ common sense revolution. If I was capable of leaving everything I cared for behind in search of what was important to me such as values of community instead of rampant individualism, I can surely do it again. It’s about time we all acted as full members of this country in waiting. Québec has everything in its capacity to become the country I have already lost thanks to crony capitalism and contempt of democracy. Get ready for a wake up call. You can’t scare us anymore.

On the surface I would agree, Donna, but in Canada we are pretty much a two-party system just like the United States, and I’m not seeing much different between the two parties in any event. This post was severely critical of Harper’s government, but if you read other posts you’ll find I’m equally critical of what I’m seeing as a muted political landscape (hint: the Liberals seem to be marching along to the same beat). Canadians need to take back “OUR” Government and ensure that it once again represents the moral standards of the majority of Canadians. We need a government that respects all people, a Canadian Government for the interests of Canadians, not an American side kick government mimicking the Policies of the USA. A government that once again who promotes and acts as peacekeepers, and promotes above all diplomacy. A government that is interested in preserving our rich natural resources not selling out for money at the cost of the gobal environment. A government who supports Canadians and doesn’t treat them as nothing more than their cash cows – We need to reform our government and we need to start with removing the Harper Government.

Canadians need to really question and get any future Government to commit unconditionally to make fundamental changes, and the first change needs to be the ability of the Canadian Public to force a recall vote of the Government if they are elected on promises and doesn’t actively move to implement their promises within the first year of being elected and fully implement within the second.

The second is abolish omnibus bills – public and all elected representatives deserve to fully review what legislation a government is proposing.

Thirdly any changes that would impact, weaken or possibly infringe on our rights as Canadians should always face public debate, scrutiny.

Finally the Canadian Government needs to be put on a financial leash, they need to fully disclose to taxpayers all current expenditures and projects be it military, or otherwise need to be put under independent audit to ensure monies are not needlessly wasted – and if a government can’t show to taxpayers that it prudently used tax resources again it should be cause for recall.

Hello, great article and equally solid responses.

I too stand in disbelief as I see our rights continually eroded under the Harper Govnt. Over a year after the original post, mega-prisons and mandatory minimums are still stoutly championed by him and his goons (read: Toewvs, Baird, Oliver). The conservative war on science escalates daily, as does their persecution of environmentalists. Joe Oliver in particular is such a shithead, consistently belittling anyone who speaks against the Oil Sands and countering evidence-based criticisms with Alberta-sponsored “science”. Seriously, how the fuck is this man in charge of the environment and natural resources? It’s analogous to having a member of the Westboro Baptist Church chair a committee on respect and tolerance.

Thankfully it looks like BC’s headed for an NDP government tomorrow which will thwart the federal pipeline plans. Its an encouraging sign that the Canadian people are beginning to realize Harper’s economic stewardship BS is just a mirage, in spite of the over $100 000 000 already spent on Economic Action Plans ads that blanket the airwaves (which will double as they plan to run in for another 3 years at least…)

PS Suggested reading on the topic of public safety and CSIS under Harper:

http://www.dominionpaper.ca/articles/4338 Good article on CSIS mandates, targeting indigenous peoples and environmental groups as future-terrorists.

The next thing the Harper government legislates will be foreign voters to go along with foreign workers. You can vote from China or India or Pakistan or from anywhere cheap labour comes from.

Even a maggot is a higher lifeform than Harper or anyone that supports him. At least a maggot has a beneficial purpose. That war mongering money-pig and his cabinet are the biggest threat to Canada’s security since WW2. He is deliberatly trying to radicalize any opposition to Conservative values and policies as well as attempting to subvert any right to privacy within the walls of our homes. I cannot believe that Mr.Harper would so blatantly urinate on the graves of those who have given their lives to protect our freedoms and rights.

Harper and his supporters are parasites on the soul of our beloved Canada.

    Dwight and W.,

While I agree with everything you say (including the USA puppet comment), my biggest concern is that there are enough blind people out there who continue to unquestioningly support Harper’s illegal and malevolent tyranny. One criminal by himself is an outcast. A group of criminals being propped up by ignorance and greed result in things like National Socialism.

Minimum sentencing is not going away and they fly them under the banners of violence. Who would argue gangs and guns. This country is sleeping or hasn’t been caught yet. His(Harper) giving unprecedented access to our non-criminal records to the states alone should have us angry. How long before not paying a parking ticket or taxes to seem less asinine becomes a minimum sentence. Well pay ur bills while the companies drive up the fee 140% in 4 yrs. You should have gotten a better raise if they wont not our fault. Protest… lol we all saw how that worked out at the g20 and sympathetic wall street they were vilified. We need more focus on Canadian issues with a point not jokes about timmies from the media we have now.

Agreed, Jeff. It’s time for citizens to organize and stand up to the growing tyranny of the “authorities”. How many more times do we have to witness brazen lawlessness, lies, corruption, theft, and abasement of morals and ethics by the sociopaths claiming to represent our interests? Protests are nothing more than feel-good exercises that are bent to become justifications for increasing loss of rights, freedoms, privacy, and dignity.

I’m not a throw out the baby with the bathwater sort of guy — there are many positive traits, today considered hold-outs of an “old” Canada, but still enmeshed in the shameful spectacle that our government has become. I want to be proud to be a Canadian again.

I too found this page and comments when I, frustrated with Harpers’ actions for/in Israel, typed the phrase ‘Fuck Off Harper.’
Satisfying to see that I am not the only one who would risk the ire of Canada’s secret service, who no doubt have been alerted by the combination of ‘Harper’ and ‘Fuck’ in my search.
It is money that got him voted in both times and now I hear he wants another term. Is that even possible? Oh yea, money talks. I can only pray that more ‘people’ vote against him than there is money voting for him.

What we are watching here, boys and girls, is the destruction of our country by a tyrant hell-bent on stroking his ego by controlling his subjects and making ‘friends’ with gifts of our money and resources. Watch as we are forced into a civil war and dissolve into at least 3 separate countries. If we don’t stop him now, that is our future.

Yes Steven Harper is a useless asshole. He has led the sheeples of Canada to the right of the USA and at the level of Sarah Palin and the US Tea Party. The arrogant asshole has led Canada to more draconian Marijuana laws and all the other stupid things listed here.

We, other creatures, our forests, resources, waterways and our country have been damaged irreparably by this particular asshole. But the first asshole was Mulroney (hundreds of thousands of good-paying jobs lost via NAFTA and massive privatizations of public properties and services). This infamy was followed by Conservative-in-Liberal-clothing Paulie Sweathop Martin’s offshore tax haven extravaganzas. Now, the satanic Harper and his Koch-a-roaches backers via the Fraser Instapuke, which also sponsored every right wing provincial politician in the West, if not worldwide –billions of bucks worth of bribes! So the rich got super-richer. Since the rich do not do good things with their money, Hannibal Lektor’s solution applies: Eat the rich with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.
